Secret Gardens of Oxton returns for 2022

04 May 2022

Secret Gardens of Oxton makes a welcome return on Sunday 8 May after a two-year absence because of the pandemic.

Eighteen glorious gardens will open to the public between 10am and 5pm and there will be an array of craft and plant stalls, live entertainment, children’s activities, a gala raffle and food and drink from a host of local businesses.

The popular family day out was first launched in 2001 by the Oxton Society to give people the chance to see some of the beautiful gardens ‘hidden’ behind the conservation area’s sandstone walls. The award-winning event has since attracted thousands of visitors and raised £340,000 for local charities.

Organiser Lisa Stafford said: ‘The Secret Gardens of Oxton is the highlight of the local calendar and the whole village is excited to be able to welcome visitors again. We have had to hold ‘virtual’ tours of the gardens online over the past two years but there is nothing like experiencing what Oxton has to offer first hand.’

Tickets on the day are £10 but if you purchase your ticket in advance, they cost £8 per person. Advance tickets are on sale now in Oxton Village shops, the Williamson Art Gallery, Brennan Ayre O’Neill (Prenton and Bromborough) and Homebird, Heswall. Tickets can also be purchased online at theoxtonsociety.co.uk.

Proceeds will be divided between the Oxton Society and three charities assisting with parking and refreshments - Birkenhead Woodcraft Folk, Stick ‘n’ Step and Shaftsbury Youth Club.

Free car parking is available on Oxton Fields, Storeton Road and the Williamson Art Gallery, Slatey Road.
