£18,000 of public realm improvements have now been completed in Liscard, with the arrival of new planters, benches and bins to help make the town centre a nicer place to be for those living and working in the area.

Local group, Liscard Community Links CIC, are supporting the maintenance of the new planters, and have created new displays for residents to enjoy as the weather warms up. Run by a small group of volunteers, they plant and maintain the town’s barrier baskets, wildflowers, daffodils and run a community garden where they grow vegetables.

They said:

“The new planters look lovely; and along with the new benches and bins, they are much needed improvements for our streets. People have told us that the daffodil areas we have planted in town areas look especially good this year and really brighten up the area, especially the beautiful display of daffodils along Liscard Crescent.

“We are all working together to help Liscard look more cared for and create a nicer place to be, with more areas to sit and rest, and we look forward to the further improvements being planned for the future.”

The group are planning further planting sessions over the coming weeks and added:

We are looking forward to planting the summer baskets at the end of April and welcome volunteers who might like to get involved to help and support. We have a small shop unit in the Cherry Tree centre, and welcome donations of recycled clothes, shoes, craft, fabrics and cottons, as these allow us to invest back into Liscard to help continue our planting and social action projects.

The programme of works installing the new bins, benches and planters was carried out by Wirral Council in partnership with Gavin Building Services (GBS) and Cambrianway Ltd and has seen improvements made to the provisions on key roads and junctions within the town centre. The improvements have been made possible thanks to funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, through the city region’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocation.

At a Policy and Resources meeting, as well as an Economy, Housing and Regeneration Committee meeting earlier this month, Councillors agreed to move forward with plans for £10.78m of funding for Liscard from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund Round 3, matched by £1.2m of council funding. The regeneration programme is currently being worked up, with plans expected to be brought forward from 2026 onwards, including proposals to build new homes, revitalise the town centre and offer enhanced community facilities.

Wirral Council will also continue working with the Liscard Together Partnership as the broader regeneration plans for the town are developed, helping to co-create a place that allows residents and businesses to thrive. Read more on the Liscard Together website.
