A brand-new evening event celebrating Birkenhead’s thriving creative scene through exhibitions, open studios, and community-driven activities will take place on Friday 21 March.

Organised by Make CIC, Art After Dark invites visitors to explore the town’s artistic heart, with local creative spaces opening their doors for a night of discovery and connection.

Joel Murray, Community Manager at Make CIC, said:

We’re excited to bring Art After Dark to life. This event is about shining a light on the creative community we’re proud to be part of, while also bringing people together to discover the wealth of talent right on their doorstep.

The initiative is a legacy of Wirral Borough of Culture 2024, which was co-ordinated and part-funded by Wirral Council, with financial support from Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The event aims to foster collaboration between Birkenhead’s creative organisations, encourage engagement with the local arts community, and bring new energy to the area’s cultural offerings.

The evening will feature contributions from several key local organisations, including the Williamson Art Gallery, Hamilton Vault Studios, Spider Project, Make It Happen, Bloom, Rathbone Studios, Future Yard and Landlines Studio with more venues and participants to be announced.

Each location will showcase unique exhibitions, open studios, and creative experiences, offering something for everyone - from art enthusiasts to curious newcomers. As the driving force behind the initiative, Make CIC will host a resident showcase at the Hamilton creative hub, highlighting the incredible talent nurtured within the space.

From visual art and design to crafts and sculpture, the showcase will feature a diverse range of work from the Make community.

Art After Dark is more than just a celebration of art — it’s a way to spark new conversations, create connections, and drive footfall to the town’s creative spaces, contributing to the ongoing regeneration of Birkenhead and the wider Wirral area.
