Wirral ranks top 4 for schools accredited with active travel awards
22% of schools across the borough are now awarded with a Modeshift accreditation, meaning that Wirral ranks 4th within the list of Local Authorities nationwide (that have more than 100 schools).
Modeshift accreditation is awarded to recognise a school's encouragement of walking, cycling and wheeling as modes of transport for getting to school, as well as practical help to make it easier for pupils and their families to travel actively.
27 schools in Wirral have been awarded so far. They are:

- Heswall Primary
- Heygarth Primary
- Hoylake Holy Trinity CE Primary
- Liscard Primary
- Mount Primary
- Oxton St Saviour's CE Primary
- Poulton Lancelyn Primary - Oak Trees MAT
- Prenton Primary
- Raeburn Primary
- Riverside Primary
- Somerville Primary School (Somerville Federation)
- St Alban's Catholic Primary

Awards were held at Birkenhead Town Hall to congratulate the latest schools who have joined the accreditation scheme. They were celebrated by Simon O’Brien, the Cycling and Walking Ambassador for the Liverpool City Region who was impressed with all the initiatives the schools have been doing.
Congratulations to all these schools on their continued works and efforts.
