Wirral ranks top 4 for schools accredited with active travel awards

22% of schools across the borough are now awarded with a Modeshift accreditation, meaning that Wirral ranks 4th within the list of Local Authorities nationwide (that have more than 100 schools). 

Modeshift accreditation is awarded to recognise a school's encouragement of walking, cycling and wheeling as modes of transport for getting to school, as well as practical help to make it easier for pupils and their families to travel actively. 

 27 schools in Wirral have been awarded so far. They are:

  5. Castleway Primary
  6. Christ Church CE Primary Birkenhead
  7. Christ the King Catholic Primary
  8. Church Drive Primary - Oak Trees MAT
  9. Gayton Primary - Cheshire Academy Trust
  10. Greenleas Primary
  11. Grove Street Primary
  12. Heswall Primary
  13. Heygarth Primary
  14. Hoylake Holy Trinity CE Primary
  15. Liscard Primary
  16. Mount Primary
  17. Oxton St Saviour's CE Primary
  18. Poulton Lancelyn Primary - Oak Trees MAT
  19. Prenton Primary
  20. Raeburn Primary
  21. Riverside Primary
  22. Somerville Primary School (Somerville Federation)
  23. St Alban's Catholic Primary

Awards were held at Birkenhead Town Hall to congratulate the latest schools who have joined the accreditation scheme. They were celebrated by Simon O’Brien, the Cycling and Walking Ambassador for the Liverpool City Region who was impressed with all the initiatives the schools have been doing.
