The beauty of this course is it’s run by parents for parents. We’re all in the same boat, we’re all in this together!

Parenting can be tough, but you don’t have to do it alone. Across Wirral parents are supporting each other through the Being a Parent course - a free, practical, and supportive programme designed for parents and carers of children aged 2–11 years.

The course is run by Parent Group Leaders who are local mums and dads that understand the ups and downs of family life because they’ve been there too. These volunteers have completed specialist training through the Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC) programme to guide other parents in building confidence, strengthening relationships and tackling everyday challenges together.

What is EPEC?

EPEC is an internationally recognised, evidence-based parenting programme where parents help parents. It provides practical tools to build resilience, manage everyday challenges, and strengthen family relationships.

The Being a Parent course is delivered by trained Parent Group Leaders who offer relatable support in a friendly and welcoming space by offering practical tips.

What can the course offer you?

This 8-week course is packed with practical advice to help you:

  • Manage your child’s behaviour in a positive way
  • Handle stress - for both you and your family
  • Understand and manage emotions - yours and your child’s
  • Improve communication, listening, and play skills
  • Build stronger parent-child relationships
  • Explore parenting roles, expectations, and cultural influences

The best part? It’s free! And it’s delivered by parents who truly get it because they’ve been in your shoes.

Meet the Parent Group Leaders

These incredible volunteers have completed specialist training and are continuously supported by the EPEC Trainers and Hub Coordinators to ensure they provide high-quality, effective guidance. They bring their own real-life experiences to create a welcoming, relatable space where parents feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Hear directly from the Parent Group Leaders about why they chose to volunteer and how the training has helped them in their own family lives:
