Committee to Consider New Corporate Carer Working Group for Adult Support
Wirral’s Adult Social Care and Public Health Committee will meet next week to examine proposals to create a new Corporate Carer Working Group aimed at strengthening how the council supports adults with care and support needs across the borough.
The proposal, which will be discussed at the committee meeting on Tuesday 3 March 2026, sets out plans to form a cross‑council group made up of elected members and senior officers. Its role would be to shape a new Corporate Carer Strategy, drawing on principles similar to the council’s established corporate parenting approach within Children’s Services
If agreed by the committee, the group would be tasked with developing a long‑term strategy that sets out the council’s priorities for the next five years, ensuring adults who need care and support are championed at all levels of decision‑making. The group would provide quarterly updates to the committee.
The concept of “corporate caring” emphasises the collective responsibility of the whole council—alongside its partners and communities—to promote independence, safety and wellbeing. A workshop held with members and senior officers in Autumn 2025 explored how this approach could strengthen prevention, improve outcomes and ensure a whole‑system commitment to supporting vulnerable adults.
At the meeting, committee members will assess the proposals, weigh the available options, and determine whether the new working group should be established.
The meeting will take place in public, and all related papers are available on the council’s website.
