Gift Appeal delivers extra Christmas cheer for local children
Hundreds of local children and young people can look forward to opening a gift on Christmas morning thanks to the generosity of residents, community groups and organisations from across the borough.
Since launching this year's appeal on 13 November, organisers from the Council’s children’s services team have received more than 2000 gifts for local children and families in need - which is a record number since the annual appeal was first launched in 2020.
After collecting the donations from drop-off points across Wirral, the team are now busy matching suitable gifts with their recipients - ranging from new-born babies to 17-year-olds - and then sending them on so they are ready to be opened on the big day.
The Deputy Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, dropped by to lend a hand and to thank everyone for all their efforts.
The Deputy Mayor said:
I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated or supported the Christmas Gift Appeal, including hundreds of residents and Council staff, and local organisations such as Wirral’s Family Hubs, Birkenhead Park School and the Jessica Fowler Netball Team.
Businesses have also been incredibly generous, including Tesco Bidston, MKM Building Supplies, Safe Flow Ventilation, Cammell Laird, and INTEB Energy and Sustainability.
The staff and volunteers who have coordinated the collections, matched the presents to local young people and then made sure they were delivered safely to their recipients, all deserve a massive well done, too.
