Wirral’s Family Hubs have continued to expand across the borough, with four more hubs having opened in January.

With eight sites currently running, here is a round up of what residents can expect when accessing support at a family hub...

What is a Family Hub?

Family Hubs are spaces where families can easily access a wide range of non-judgemental support to help them live well in Wirral. They bring together maternity services, health visitors, library and foodbank services and children’s centre activities.

Wirral’s Family Hubs make services easier to navigate and more joined-up, ensuring families receive the right service at the right time.

Family Hubs really expand on the offer of Wirral’s children’s centres, offering support to families with children aged 0-19, and up to age 25 for young people with special education needs (SEND).

They will each offer the same core services – with extra support tailored to the needs of the local communities they serve.

What support can I access at any Family Hub?

Wirral’s Family Hubs provide a ‘core’ offer, meaning all hubs will host:

  • group activities for families to support their child’s development
  • access to health appointments with midwives
  • health visitors
  • access to services when relationships in your life might need some support

Library and foodbank services are also available at some hubs.

What specialist support can different hubs offer?

In addition to the core offer, each hub will offer specialist services, tailored to the communities they serve. Some examples of these specialist services include:

  • Brassey Gardens Family Hub – holds Rainbows group for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and social or communication difficulties
  • Family Hub at Equilibrium – holds community breakfasts and Nature Tots sessions for under 5s
  • Family Hub at St James Centre’s - digital corner and access to Wirral Lifelong Learning Service courses
  • Seacombe Family Hub – lots of health services on offer, including a birth centre attached to the centre, with access to midwifery services
  • Family Hub at Wirral Development Trust – Library Service, second-hand Book Swap, After-School Lego club
  • Bromborough Family Hub - residents can access Citizen Advice Wirral Support
  • The Bungalow @ Grove Street Family Hub - visitors can access parenting support groups here run by Early Childhood Service, Mental Health Support Groups, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) classes on a Monday
  • Ganneys Meadow School and Family Hub - lots of support from SEND services and Wellbeing Programme

Are there going to be any more hubs?

There are plans to open three more Family Hubs from Spring 2024.
