New Brighton In Bloom seals a golden year with two new awards
Exceptional efforts by volunteers in New Brighton to make their community a welcoming and attractive place have been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
The group’s hard work in all weathers has been rewarded with a prestigious Britain In Bloom Gold Award, plus the special award for Best Small Coastal Resort in the North West, which was jointly presented to Crosby.
Judges from the RHS In Bloom competition visited the resort in the summer to inspect their work, which includes more than 100 colourful plant displays in roadside barrier boxes, giant street planters, traffic-calming retainers and even two re-purposed sailing boats.
Vicky Phillips-Jones, who set up the group in 2018, said:
It’s absolutely amazing to win - an exceptional achievement and everyone should be very proud.
The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Cherry Povall, added:
It’s wonderful to see the community pull together and make a real difference to where they live, and to hear how rewarding it is for the volunteers personally, as well.
I’d like to congratulate everyone on these fantastic awards and to thank all the volunteers and supporters – including the many local businesses that provide vital sponsorship – for everything they do.
The organisers of New Brighton In Bloom are keen to encourage new volunteers and speak to businesses who would like to get involved. Please visit their Facebook page or email newbrightoninbloom@gmail.com for more information.
