Birdwatching walk at Wirral Country Park celebrates the biodiversity of Wirral’s wetlands

A birdwatching walk along the Wirral Way and Thurstaston shore will be the latest event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the official opening of Wirral Country Park.

‘Birds and Brunch’ is a two hour guided walk on Saturday 25 November looking for hedgerow birds along Wirral Way and winter birds on the Dee estuary. The walk will be led by a Wirral Ranger and participants will be able to enjoy breakfast and a hot drink afterwards at Whistle Stop Café in Thurstaston Visitor Centre.

The Dee is an important wetland for wintering birds so there will be plenty to see, including redwing, fieldfare, redshank, curlews and pintail, as well as common hedgerow birds like blue tits and robins.

The walk starts at 9.30am at the Visitors Centre and participants are asked to bring boots and warm waterproofs.

Tickets cost £10, which includes a choice of bacon or sausage sausage sandwich (vegetarian sausage also available) with tea or coffee at Whistle Stop Café afterwards. To book, email wcp@wirral.gov.uk

This year has seen a busy programme of events at Wirral Country Park to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere attracted large crowds in August and throughout the summer there was a wide range of events from miniature traction engines to teddy bear picnics. Local schoolchildren helped create wildflower art installations and a photography exhibition brought to life the fascinating history of the park.
