Plans for a record-breaking £1.6bn investment in Liverpool City Region’s public transport including new railway stations, rapid transit links and smart ticketing across the entire network have been welcome by the LEader of Wirral Council.
School Streets are usually in operation at the start and end of the school day during the school term. Signs at each site display the restricted times and only pedestrians, cyclists or motorists with an exemption should access the School Street during these times.

The latest in the successful series of Wirral Council’s innovative Youth Market is coming to Birkenhead on Saturday 13th December in the run up to Christmas – and it’s set to be the biggest yet.
A new plan, approved by the Children Young People and Education Committee on 26 November 2025, sets out a vision for how Wirral children in care and care leavers will be supported over the next three years.
Once implemented, the report claims two measures combined will help deliver the council deliver on some of its climate commitments, improve air quality and support the transition to fossil fuel-free travel by 2041.
To align with national targets and ensure measurable progress, the report proposes amending the council’s Environment and Climate Emergency policy statement, which will result in a stronger overall commitment to protecting biodiversity on Wirral.
A survey was launched in October giving residents the chance to have their say on potential changes to two assisted travel policies; the Home to School Transport for children aged 5 to 16 and the post-16 Transport Statement for older children and young people. The consultation will remain open for a further six week, so there’s still time to have your say on proposed changes to the way some children and young people travel to school across Wirral.
