Following the flooding caused by Storm Kathleen this week, council teams and contractors have been out across the borough to clear up and make the areas safe.

The extremely high winds combined with higher than usual tides on Tuesday 9 April left a lot of debris particularly in the areas of New Brighton, West Kirby and Hoylake. The council's waste contractor, Biffa, has been out to clear the pavements and roads at West Kirby promenade, tidal debris from Hoylake front and sand, debris and loose litter bins at New Brighton promenade and Fort Perch Rock area.

An additional road sweeper has also been used to help clear promenade roads and inspections are being carried out for any lost litter bins.

Street furniture and manhole covers that were moved by the wind and water have been inspected by the council's highways teams and they have been made safe. Missing manhole covers or seating will be fixed or replaced as soon as possible.

Two trees were also impacted by the winds. On Eastham Rake and Torwood Road trees were responded to on Tuesday 9 April when they were reported and were removed to make the area safe.

The council will assess the flood defences in conjunction with the Environment Agency and as Flood Authority, will be publishing a Flood Investigation Report in accordance with section 19 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. This report will fully investigate the facts and circumstances and make any necessary recommendations as a result.
