Wirral's first Youth Market sees a roaring trade
Thousands of visitors descended on the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre in Liscard or Wirral’s first Youth Market.
The event saw 20 young traders, aged 16-29, selling everything from clothing and handcrafted gifts, to delicious baked goods and eye-catching art. There was also entertainment provided by local musicians and dance groups.
More than 3,500 people came to visit the market which was the first of its kind in Wirral. The initiative was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the High Streets Taskforce, and gave young traders the chance to launch a business within their local community or reach a new audience for an existing business.
Netty and Eva from Facepaint Fever had a popular stall at the market. Netty said: "As a local to the Cherry Tree, it was such a joy to see it booming like it was today.
Other traders were Myers Makes, Charlie’s Cards and Crafts, Anatolia Kitchen, The Snack Oasis, Cosy Crochet, The Charm Gal, ScarlettRosa, Ariadne, Simply Meant to Crochet, The Wreath Wraith Shop, Distinct Sportswear, Rebecca Gee Artworks, Rea Hitchcock Figurines, Barbarians Gym Clothing, In The Clouds Attire, Crocheted by Evelyn, The Possible Kitchen, Crocheted with Love AJ and Wirral’s Gift Corner.
Music was provided by local artist Natasha Griffiths and there were high energy dance performances from Strawberry Dance Studio and Stage Dance & Drama.
Joe Barratt, Co-Founder of The Teenage Market, said: "I’m delighted that young traders had a chance to showcase their products in Liscard. We’ve seen how young people can benefit from taking part in events such as this."
Wirral’s first Youth Market marks the start of a programme of activity in the town via a new partnership between the council, local people and businesses working together to unlock Liscard's potential. Two further Youth Markets are also planned over the next two years.
