Residents attend New Ferry drop in events
Residents and businesses in New Ferry came along to find out more about the next stages of regeneration being planned in the area and give their views on the latest designs.
The two community drop in events were used to showcase the latest proposals to revamp public areas in the pedestrianised area of Bebington Road.
Visitors could see the updated design plans, learn about the upcoming phase of highways and improvements to public spaces, and discuss what the changes will mean for local businesses and the wider community.
The latest designs reflect the ideas and concerns people shared with the council during the previous consultation when people said wanted the space to feel more welcoming and attractive, with seating, greenery, and measures to discourage vehicles from using the road as a shortcut.
The design now includes above ground planters and a small flexible space that could be used for community events.
The proposals also include four additional CCTV cameras and improved street lighting to help deter antisocial behaviour. And - to keep the area as a pedestrian priority space - the council is also exploring the use of technology to further prevent vehicles from using the route as a cut-through, which would improve road safety.
During the drop in events Wirral Council’s project team were on hand to talk through proposals, answer questions and listen to feedback on the latest designs.
In addition the team from Regenda, who have been developing new housing in the area, joined the events to share the visuals and details of the second phase of new homes now being built on the former Woodhead Street car park.
If you couldn’t make to the events you can still share your thoughts to help shape what comes next by completing the form at https://forms.office.com/e/A9DfGt2m00?origin=lprLink
The feedback provided will help provide insight into how local people and groups might want to use the space and get involved in looking after it so the final design can be further refined before it is presented to the council’s committee in a few months time.
