Early Years Jobs Fair to take place in Birkenhead
A jobs fair aimed at those looking for work in the crucial Early Years sector is coming to Birkenhead on 16th July.
Designed for those looking to build a career working with young children, the event will give residents to chance to meet with a wide range of Early Years employers from across the borough, as well as get practical application and CV help.
Funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, through the city region’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocation, the event is the latest in the council’s Jobs Fair programme which has so far seen over 1,200 people meet with employers.
Exit surveys indicated that 24% of people who came to one of the previous events had provisionally been offered a job or place on a training course as a result of the jobs fair.
Vacancies being advertised include roles in nurseries such as Busy Bees, Partou and Kids Planet, as well as pre-schools and primary schools. Jobs in early years settings range from Nursery Assistant, Apprentice Early Years Practitioner, Qualified Nursery Practitioner, Room Leader, Educator, Chef’s Assistant, Teaching Assistants, and support roles.
The fair is suitable for people with no prior experience as well at those already working in the sector. Roles available will range from entry level positions for people looking to take their first step into the workplace to jobs for experienced childcare practitioners who want to take on a new challenge.
As well as being able to apply for open positions at the event itself, training providers including Wirral Met College and Wirral Lifelong Learning will be in attendance, offering advice on their Early Years courses and routes into this rewarding career. There will also be careers support where attendees can get application, CV and interview tips and improving their skills.
Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paula Basnett, said:
Growing employment and skills is a key priority for us, and the Early Years sector is crucial to delivering high quality care for our youngest residents. This event will open up meaningful local employment opportunities for those passionate about giving children the best start in life.
The success of our previous jobs fairs demonstrates how valuable making in person connections between local people and employers is, helping residents secure jobs in this rewarding field and giving businesses access to the dedicated, skilled local talent we have here in Wirral. I hope as many people as possible can come along and be supported into their next role.
Cllr Mike Wharton, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade, said:
This is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in working in the early years sector to find out not only about the kind of jobs that are out there but also the training that is available to them. This is a tremendously important and fulfilling area of work and I’d encourage anyone with an interest to go down to the Early Years Jobs Fair. It could make a huge difference to their lives and the lives of the children they would be working with.
Alongside the Jobs Fair, there will also be pre-bookable ‘How to become a childminder’ sessions taking place, which will offer 1:1 advice on how to start a new, self-employed career that balances work and family life. The sessions will cover the requirements for setting up, how to get started and how childminding affects benefits and allowances. Information on how to book onto these sessions will be released soon.
The Early Years Jobs Fair takes place on 16th July at The Lauries in Birkenhead (142 Claughton Road, Birkenhead CH41 6EY) between 1 – 4pm. You can register in advance here or simply turn up on the day. Accompanied children are welcome to along come too.
Early Years employers with vacancies who want to exhibit at the event can secure a free place by emailing economicgrowthservice@wirral.gov.uk.
