Applications open for Wirral Youth Market
Applications are open for young entrepreneurs to have a free market stand at Liscard’s Cherry Tree Centre this summer.
The Youth Market is open to anybody aged 16-29 who has a product or service to sell. The new initiative is designed to give young traders and makers the chance to launch a business within their local community. From crafts to baked goods, bespoke jewellery to graphic design, the market is open to young people with any level of experience.
Councillor Tony Jones, Chair of Wirral Council's Economy, Regeneration & Housing Committee, said:
This is a brilliant opportunity for ambitious young people to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit and launch their business, market-test ideas, or drum up local interest in their offer.
There’s a wide range of successful businesses who already operate in the Cherry Tree Centre and setting up a stall alongside these long-standing brands is a great way to gain exposure and get a feel for selling products to a diverse audience of shoppers.
Whether the business is in its infancy or is already set up, the opportunity to have a free stand at a busy shopping centre could be a brilliant way of landing some new customers and I’d encourage anybody with a product or service to offer – even if it’s just an idea - to apply and get involved.
This initiative comes following funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and support from the Teenage Market initiative via the UK Government’s High Street Task Force. The market in Liscard will be the first of its kind in Wirral, it will also be the first of three Youth Markets delivered over the next two years.
As well as being open to traders, local performers are also welcome to apply and demonstrate their talents. This includes solo musicians, singers, bands, dance troops and choirs who will be able to perform near the market traders throughout the day.
Joe Barratt, Co-Founder of the Teenage Market, said:
I’m delighted that Liscard are providing a free opportunity to give young traders the chance to showcase their creative products and give young performers the chance to share their talents with the local community. We’ve seen across the country how young people can benefit so much from taking part in these events, so if you know of a great young trader or performer please tell them to sign-up to take part.
To get involved, visit the Teenage Market Website, create a profile and apply to part take part. Applications are welcome from groups as well as individuals.
The Youth Market takes place on July 22nd 2023 from 10am – 4pm and the closing date for applications is July 21st 2023.
