Wirral is being showcased to audiences across the country this spring as part of VisitEngland’s ‘All on the North West Coast’ campaign, which is promoting some of the region’s most distinctive coastal destinations.

Running until June, the initiative is designed to encourage people to discover – or rediscover – the North West coast.

It comes on the back of VisitEngland research that shows England’s coastal destinations have been seeing fewer visitors in recent years with numbers down 11% year-on-year. If just 10% of what Brits spend on travelling abroad was spent on holidaying in the UK instead, it could deliver an £8 billion boost annually to the economy.

Wirral is being featured in the campaign alongside destinations from Southport and Lytham St Annes through to Morecambe and the Cumbrian coast. It highlights the variety of experiences the region offers, from nature and coastal walks to heritage, arts, family attractions and food and drink.

The campaign, which is backed by a £1 million investment, is funded and delivered entirely by VisitEngland in partnership with Tripadvisor and Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership. Wirral’s inclusion means the borough’s coastline, culture and outdoor spaces are being profiled to potential visitors across the UK – boosting awareness of what makes the area special.

It’s fantastic to see Wirral highlighted as part of this major national campaign. Our borough has so much to offer - from beautiful beaches and scenic coastal routes to thriving cultural attractions and independent businesses. This activity gives people around the country a chance to see what makes the Wirral coast so unique, as well as supporting our local visitor economy and attractions.

With the Easter bank holiday approaching, the campaign also offers a timely reminder for residents to enjoy the breadth of attractions that the North West coast offers close to home.

Families, friends and visitors can make the most of lighter days by exploring beaches, parks, nature reserves, cultural venues and local hospitality – without having to travel huge distances.

Destination guides for all the featured locations, with tips on where to visit and what to do are included on the Tripadvisor hub.

The national campaign also gives Wirral businesses and attractions an opportunity to make the most of the increased interest in the area. Local organisations may wish to:

  • Highlight their own offers, events or experiences while the region is in the national spotlight.
  • Share content that shows what visitors can enjoy in Wirral.
  • Use the campaign hashtag #AllOnTheCoast to help people discover them.

Content that can be adapted to promote local experiences is available to businesses within a new dedicated section of VisitBritain.org here.
