Wirral Parents Come Together for a Self‑Care Workshop

Group of parents gathered together for a workshop

Last week to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week, Family Hubs across Wirral invited parents to take part in a self‑care workshop delivered by Wirral Mind. The session gave parents an opportunity to learn practical ways to support their own wellbeing and create calmer routines at home.

The workshop shared simple tools that parents can use in everyday situations, including breathing exercises, practical stress‑management techniques and easy ways to build moments of self‑care into a normal routine. They explored ways to build healthy routines, reduce stress and respond calmly to their children’s big emotions. Parents were also given information about what support Wirral Mind offers locally.

One parent said:

I found it really helpful. It helped me to understand how I can include self‑care in my daily life and how important it is for my family.

The session encouraged parents to think about how their own wellbeing connects with how their children experience and express their emotions.

Another parent added:

This course has made me realise that my children have the same self‑caring needs that I have myself. I have to ensure all my needs are fulfilled to help them.

Parents were also given information booklets and resources to continue using the techniques at home, helping them feel more prepared to support both themselves and their children.

A parent told us:

I have been given lots of useful handouts and resources from the Family Hubs. I can take this away and will use the information to help me with my children's behaviour and emotions.

Even though Children’s Mental Health Week has come to an end, Family Hubs continue to offer support all year round. Family Hubs are open to all families with children aged 0–19, or up to 25 for young people with special educational needs. They bring together professionals from health services, education providers and community organisations, offering friendly, accessible support. Parents and carers can simply walk in and speak to staff whenever they need advice or information.

Mental health and wellbeing matter throughout the year, and families are encouraged to reach out whenever they’d like support or someone to talk to.
