The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, welcomed the Commander General of the Peruvian Navy,  Admiral Javier Bravo of Rueda Delgado, to Birkenhead on Thursday (27 November), as part of an official visit to the UK.

The Mayor was joined by representatives of the Royal Navy and Wirral's Heritage Champion, Councillor Jerry Williams.

Following an inspection of the waterfront memorial to Grand Admiral Grau, the group visited Cammell Laird, before going on to view a special exhibition about the legendary Peruvian hero and his Laird's-built vessel, Huascar, at the Williamson Art Gallery.

The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, said:

It was an honour to welcome the head of Peru's Navy and representatives of our Royal Navy to Wirral.

Although the Commander General is only in the UK for a short while, he was keen to explore our connections with Grand Admiral Grau, who is a great source of pride for his Navy and an iconic figure for the whole of Peru.
