Electric-powered bin collection vehicle being trialled
Crews on one of Wirral’s household waste collection rounds are buzzing to have been chosen to trial a new electric-powered bin lorry this month.
The council’s waste collection partner, Biffa, have use of the vehicle until 26th November and will be testing it in a range of environments across the borough. They will be collecting data on issues such as economy and efficiency which will help inform a decision on whether to move the entire fleet of vehicles over to battery power and away from fossil fuel in the future.
Early feedback from the crews has been very positive, according to bosses at Biffa, who are fully-funding the two-week trial.
As you can see from the photo, the vehicle can be easily identified by it’s ‘100% electric’ livery on the side – give the crew a wave if you see them out and about in the next week.
