“I am happy to wear it because the colours remind me of sunshine and being at the seaside”, said Pheobe, one of Heswall Junior Football Club’s Diamond Under 9 Team, who have a new kit – with a strong link to the local community.

When the team needed new football shirts, a local business stepped up to pay for them but declined the offer of printing their logo on the girls’ shirts. Wishing to remain anonymous, they simply wanted to give back to the community.

Instead, they agreed to Wirral’s Family Hubs logo to be showcased on the front of the kit, helping grassroots football whilst also raising the profile of this vital network of support for families across the borough.

The club revealed the team’s new look at a recent match, where Diamond U9 girls proudly showed off their new shirts.

“I couldn’t wait to show it to my nanny and granddad,” said Arabella.

“I really like our kits, because they represent the Diamonds and I like having the Family Hubs logo on the front because it is what Heswall stands for,” commented Molly, another member of the team.

Run by dedicated volunteers, the club gives local children the chance to get active, grow in confidence and make new friends in a safe and supportive environment. More than just football, it is a powerful way to bring communities together and help children thrive through football.

“Seeing the Family Hubs logo displayed on our under nine girls' kit is a wonderful reminder of how local initiatives can support one another to create lasting impact,” said Nicola Griffiths, Club Welfare Officer & Head of Girls’ Football at Heswall Juniors FC.

Wirral Council has ten Family Hubs across Wirral. Home to multidisciplinary teams across the local authority, health, care and education, the Hubs offer a range of services and support for families and children under one roof, including free courses, access to midwife and health appointments, peer groups and play sessions. “Our club thrives thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the strength of community spirit, and this partnership reflects that beautifully,” continued Nicola.
