Art and nature are combining in a creative and exciting way this summer as Wirral libraries host a programme of activities and workshops aimed at young people and their families.

The “Stories of Nature” project promises to take young people on a wild journey covering much of what Wirral’s diverse environments have to offer, whether that be the area’s extensive coastline, award-winning parks, leafy woodlands or urban expanses.

More than 40 events – all free, but which need to be booked in advance - are planned between 21st July and 29th August, taking place across Wirral’s libraries, parks and nature reserves and the Floral Pavilion Theatre.

The themes of the events include ‘Urban Oasis’, demonstrating how a massive amount of open space isn’t essential for enticing and enjoying nature and wildlife – it can be nurtured or just appreciated almost everywhere.

‘Coastal Connections’ explores the sights and sounds of Wirral’s shoreline through creative eyes, while ‘Woodland Wonders’ promises ‘hands-on experiences celebrating nature’s beauty and the role libraries and parks play in unlocking its wonders.

‘Hills and Horizons’ is all about families working together the produce part of a large-scale piece of art that, when combined with others will create a stunning, panoramic masterpiece showing the views from the highest points in Wirral.

“Stories of Nature” is supported using public funding from Arts Council England. The project is seen as a successor to the hugely- popular, Green BiblioFest, which was a highlight of last year’s Borough of Culture 2024 programme.

Not all events and workshops are suitable for all ages. Age guidance is given on the booking page. All events are stand-alone sessions and must be booked in advance at wirrallibraries.eventbrite.co.uk. The brochure can be viewed here Stories of Nature programme
