Wirral Local Plan moves ahead

22 March 2022

The draft Local Plan has been given the green light by Wirral’s Policy and Resources Committee to be presented to full council.

The Local Plan is focused on delivering Wirral’s housing needs through major regeneration primarily across the Left Bank area.  At the heart of the Plan is the comprehensive regeneration of Birkenhead to address several decades of decline.

The aim is to use this once in a lifetime opportunity currently available through significant funding opportunities to regenerate brownfield locations mainly on the eastern side of the borough to meet these housing requirements.

If council agrees, the next step will be the Regulation 19 consultation which will give any interested parties the opportunity to make representations relating to the ‘soundness’ or legal compliance of Wirral’s proposed Local Plan.

Following this the Plan  will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Independent Examination.

Full council is due to consider the Local Plan on Monday March 21. If councillors agree, the authority will then seek representations on the Plan under Regulation 19. Full details of this will be made available in the weeks following the full council meeting if agreed by members.
