New campaign to help boost Wirral’s tourism economy
The next leg of Wirral Council’s tourism campaign will focus on promoting the borough’s unique and varied cultural assets.
The promotion comes as Wirral once again takes on the role of Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture throughout 2024.
‘A place made for culture’ and will initially run between February and April and will feature photographs of New Brighton’s street art, Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight, Future Yard in Birkenhead and Eureka! Science + Discovery museum in Seacombe.
The campaign is aiming to appeal to individuals and families in the northwest region who aren't aware of what Wirral has to offer. Showcasing our culture and major attractions, the campaign will hopefully encourage people to visit for a day or stay overnight, helping Wirral businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Wirral Council’s ‘A place made for...’ tourism campaign was launched in summer 2022 and has helped to substantially boost visitor numbers, with a 34.8% increase in visitors since 2021, resulting in a £442.49m windfall for Wirral’s economy.
Chair of the Tourism, Communities, Culture & Leisure Committee, Cllr Helen Cameron, said: “Wirral welcomed 7.48 million visitors in 2022 and, while we are waiting on figures for last year, we know the major events such as The Open and the Eurovision Song Contest staged in Liverpool saw many people coming to the borough.
“Many of these visitors are spending their money in our local hotels, restaurants and businesses, not just boosting our local economy but helping to sustain full-time employment opportunities for our residents.
“We are very lucky to have so much natural beauty on our doorstep, as well as world-class visitor attractions, and it’s important that campaigns like this tell the world what Wirral has to offer. With Wirral once again being named Borough of Culture in 2024, it’s a really exciting opportunity to further boost our local tourism businesses.”
Details of Wirral’s Borough of Culture events will be released throughout the year.
