Recycle used kit and support local sporting talent

Kit Link scheme launched

A sports equipment recycling scheme will help break barriers to sports for Wirral residents while reducing waste.

Launched by Wirral Council’s Active Wirral Leisure service, Kit Link will offer residents the chance to recycle and reuse new and used sports equipment and clothing.

Sports kit and equipment can be donated at collection points across the borough, with all donations redistributed to adults and children across Wirral who are not able to access sports and physical activity due to the cost of clothing and equipment.

Many residents will know what it’s like to have an old pair of trainers, exercise clothes or sometimes sport equipment gathering dust at home. What if instead of sending it to landfill, your old kit could be someone else’s fresh start?

If you’re having a clear out, why not donate your seldom-used items to someone who will cherish them as you once did.

Recycling old sports kit and equipment will not only have a tremendous impact on the environment, but it will also enable young people and adults to enter new sports they may previously have struggled to access.

Cllr Ann Ainsworth - Vice-Chair of the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee, Wirral Council

How does it work?

  1. Donate: Collection points are available in all leisure centres, golf courses and Wirral Watersports Centre.
  2. Reuse: All donations are checked over and then allocated to groups or individuals who will use the goods to access sport and physical activity
  3. Be Active: Hundreds of Wirral residents can then enjoy a new sport or physical activity due to the donations of clothing and equipment

Donating via Kit Link will help increase the lifespan of sports clothing and equipment, reducing the need to purchase brand new goods. It also helps divert waste from landfill.
