Thousands of households engaging with trial recycling project
It is now nearly a month since Wirral Council asked more than 7,000 households across Wirral to support waste management partners in trialling a new recycling method which aims to increase the volume of materials that can be collected.
Those households have been provided with a supply of blue bags into which they are being asking to put a range of soft plastic packaging items that aren’t able to be collected under the current recycling method.
Once full, residents should seal the bags, place them inside their regular grey recycling bin and put them out for collection as usual with their other recycling.
In the first two weeks of the trial alone, 4,200 blue bags had been received and have gone through the process you can see in this video.
As well as supporting with improving recycling levels, residents are also providing valuable feedback on how the system is working for them which will be incorporated as part of the final evaluation. The trial is continuing until August.
