Spring clean-ups bring Wirral communities together
Council workers, partner and community organisations, schools, housing associations and individual volunteers are all came together recently in a series of community clean-up days.
The Environmental Action Days were part of Wirral’s contribution to the ‘Great British Spring Clean’.
A total of six multi-agency events took place between March 21st and April 6th in communities in Wirral with activities including community litter picks, bulk waste removals, alleyway clearances and opportunities for partners to provide support and advice to residents on other issues.
Across the six events, there was incredible community spirit and partnership working, people of all ages pulling together in an effort to make their neighbourhoods cleaner and greener.
More than 300 volunteers and staff put in 629 hours work across the six events, with around 15 tonnes of waste being removed.
Among those taking part were the council’s Community Safety Team, Environmental Services, Parks and Countryside and Alleyways and Grot Spots team. Onward Homes, Carrbridge Centre/Hoole Road Hub, Involve Northwest, EVOLVE, Magenta Living, Beechwood Community Shop, Crea8ing Community, Our Happy Hub CIC and Merseyside Police also took part.
Thanks should also be given to students and staff from local schools such as Ridgeway High, St Peter’s Primary School, Co-Op Academy Hillside, Ganney’s Meadow, Fender Primary, Woodchurch High, Foxfield, St. Michael's and All Angels Catholic Primary, Gilbrook, Woodchurch Primary and Meadowside for their helpful participation.
Well done and thank you to everyone who took part across the borough.
