Residents invited to feedback on Cool new climate proposals
Partners involved in leading Wirral’s response to the climate emergency are looking to produce a third strategy – and are looking for feedback from residents about how best to deliver it.
The first Wirral Climate Change Strategy was in effect from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, the Cool 2 strategy - developed and endorsed by a collective called ‘The Cool Wirral Partnership’ – replaced the initial strategy and set or a range of local actions to be taken as the borough aims to be net carbon neutral by 2041.
A review of the ‘Cool 2’ strategy is now underway alongside plans to set new actions and objectives for the next five years. It is residents’ feedback on the new strategy that is now being sought as part of the public consultation process.
The Cool Wirral Partnership co-ordinates local action on climate change and is made up of Wirral Council and local organisations such as housing associations, emergency services, local NHS, local action groups, community groups and the faith sector.
Proposed actions have been developed by partners of Cool Wirral through a series of workshops and these proposals are now on the table for residents to provide feedback – it is their responses that will shape delivery of this third strategy.
A survey on the Have Your Say website has been opened up so people can tell partners what they think
The survey includes the proposed actions for the new climate strategy for Wirral, and how they can be delivered. It includes questions about how important people think the different actions are, if there is more that could be done, and what benefits they feel the actions will provide to themselves as individuals and the wider community.
These are broken down into themes and include actions for:
- Energy
- Travel
- Resources
- Natural environment
- Adaptation

When the consultation period closes, the feedback will be used to help shape the proposed actions and how they are delivered – and a new strategy will be agreed by the Cool Wirral Partnership.
The whole partnership will take ownership and be responsible for the delivery of the strategy, working in collaboration with each other, including seeking funding through grants, to make the actions happen.
