Local environmental heroes honoured at awards ceremony

An awards ceremony, celebrating the people and projects that are helping to make Wirral a greener, fairer and more climate-resilient place to be, took place last week.

The Cool Wirral Climate Awards lit up Start Yard, Birkenhead last Thursday, honouring inspiring climate action across the borough. 

With 45 nominations across 8 categories – from passionate individuals to innovative businesses – the evening was a powerful showcase of local dedication to a greener future.

Hosted by Cool Wirral Chair Clare Jefferson and the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Brian Kenny, the event welcomed 74 attendees and celebrated these incredible winners:

• Green Youth Group – Cool Youth
• Community Action – Barbara Gleave (Wirral Repair Café)
• Climate Innovation – Kit Link
• Climate Creative – UK Unplugged
• Best Collaboration – Prenton Dell Claypit/Prenton Rugby Club with National Grid & Wirral Eco-schools
• Green Business of the Year – ReciproCity Wirral
