Don’t miss your chance to have your say on improvements for Duke Street

Wirral Council is looking to make improvements on one of the main routes linking Birkenhead and Wallasey – Duke Street.

The consultation, open until 8 January, is a chance for people to have their say on the proposals for the route. If then taken forward, the works will be funded via the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund.

Proposals include the introduction of a new pedestrian crossing at the junction with Price Street in Birkenhead to improve safety and convenience for pedestrians, and the installation of ‘wand orca’ bollards to separate vehicles from cyclists along the existing cycle lanes on both sides of the road.

A section of road with a cycle lane that not only has a white line separating the road and the cycle lane but it supported by orcas that provide more of a barrier between them and yellow lines.
An example of what the proposals for Duke Street could look like based off similar works for a scheme that has been been done in another area of the borough.

Improving Duke Street will benefit all road users. It will help to better manage traffic, encourage active travel and support regeneration by connecting development sites at Wirral Waters to Birkenhead Park railway station.

The consultation also asks people to share their opinion on introducing double yellow lines along part of the route – by Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) – to improve safety and parking management.
