Christmas bin collection dates and changes
Over the festive period, there will be some changes to grey, green and brown bin collections.
For households who usually have their green and grey bins collected on Wednesday and Thursdays, the collection day changes will be as followed:
- Wednesday 25 December – collection now on Saturday 21 December
- Thursday 26 December – collection now on Sunday 22 December
- Wednesday 1 January – collection now on Saturday 28 December
Please put your bin out by 7am as bins could be emptied earlier than normal.
In addition to this, subscribers to the garden waste collection service will not have brown bin collections from Friday 20 December until Tuesday 21 January 2025. This is for the annual garden waste shutdown period where the service temporarily stops.
Check out our top tips for reducing your waste this Christmas:
- Not all wrapping paper is recyclable as it often contains plastic film or glitter which means it is rejected by recycling plants. Plastic free wrapping paper can be recycled in the grey bin
- While you’re picking up supplies for Christmas, choose items that are loose instead of those packed in plastic packaging or take your own reusable fruit and veg bags
- Be sure to flatten any boxes to save space for all other items that may need to go in your recycling bin
- Real Christmas trees can be cut up and put in your garden waste bin ready for the first collection once collections resume from the 21 January 2025
If you plan to visit a recycling centre over the festive period, they are open 8am to 5pm except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Visit Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority website for more information Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA).
