£150 help with energy bills
A leaflet about the Chancellor's announcement of a payment of £150 to help with energy bills will be sent out with Council Tax bills this week.
Council Tax payers for houses in tax bands A to D will receive a one-off payment of £150 to support households with rising energy bills.
The energy rebate is a one-off fixed payment which the council will pay out on behalf of the Government. It is not a credit against your Council Tax account so won't show on your bill.
There is no need to phone the council regarding this payment – we will contact everyone who is eligible as soon as procedures are finalised, our phones are extremely busy at this time of year.
Here's what you need to know:
- If you are eligible and pay your Council Tax by direct debit you will receive your payment directly into your bank account in Late April or Early May.
- If you currently pay your Council Tax by cash, signing up to direct debit is the quickest way you will receive the £150 payment – you can do that here: https://www.wirral.gov.uk/council-tax/pay-council-tax
- For those who are eligible and do not pay Council Tax via direct debit, we will contact you to explain what to do to get the payment as soon as we have further details.
Wirral Council is also working on a scheme for using discretionary funding from the Government to provide assistance to those who most need it but are not eligible under the main scheme. The council is still working through most recent Government guidance on this with our suppliers, and full details will be available soon - keep an eye on our social media accounts and website.
Details and a link to more information can be found here how you can sign up to direct debit can be found on the council website.
