The Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Cllr Jeff Green and Mrs Carol Green, have joined members of 234 (Wirral) Supply Squadron Royal Logistic Corps, to raise the Armed Forces Day flag at Birkenhead town hall to mark the build-up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday (25 June).

Wallasey and Birkenhead town halls now join hundreds of other public buildings and landmarks across the country to show support for our Armed Forces community, which includes serving personnel and their families, veterans and cadets.

Wallasey town hall and the gardens of Hamilton Square will also be illuminated red, white and blue on Saturday for Armed Forces Day.

The Mayor, who is also the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Armed Forces Day provides a great opportunity for us all to reflect on the vital work done by our service men and women, who stand vigilant and prepared around the clock, every day of the year, to keep us safe.

“Their professionalism and ability to deal with whatever is asked of them was demonstrated magnificently through the pandemic, where they gave critical logistical support at our PPE and food hubs, and provided crucial expertise at our testing and vaccination centres.

“Their hard work - often at great personal risk - and the sacrifices they and their families make on our behalf, deserve all of our thanks and appreciation.

“So this Armed Forces Day, please spare a thought - and perhaps raise a cheer – for our incredible Armed Forces community.”
