Information last updated on Saturday 7 December 16:30pm

The Met Office has weather warnings in place for Storm Darragh as forecasts show storm-force winds predicted from Friday and across the weekend.

Merseyside (especially the Wirral) look the most exposed parts of the region for disruptive gusts of wind on Saturday.

Floral Pavilion

Storm Darrah has caused damaged to the cladding of the roof at the Floral Pavilion. Police and Fire services are in attendance. Unfortunately, we cannot get to the roof during these strong winds to assess and make repairs. In order that everyone remains safe and avoids any flying debris, everyone is advised to avoid Marine Promenade where possible and the area is closed off.

Updates on shows taking place on Sunday 8 December will be posted on the Floral Pavilion Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Events

Youth Market

Unfortunately, due to the expected storm and safety concerns, Wirral Youth Market will no longer be going ahead on Saturday 7 December at Birkenhead Market. Postponing the event follows advice from the Met Office specifically over Christmas Markets and safety precautions for traders, residents and visitors.

We take the safety of our customers, staff and actors seriously, with this in mind we have taken the decision to postpone our panto shows due to take place today at 2pm and 7pm at the Floral Pavilion.

Tickets will be valid for future shows until 5 January 2025 and the Floral Pavilion box office will contact everyone who has a ticket for today's shows to advise of today's cancellation. (Saturday 7 December)

Please contact our box from Monday 9 December to reschedule your booking.

We are as disappointed as you but safety is our first priority, we apologise for any inconvenience.

Coastal

Precautionary measures have been taken around our coast to protect the areas of West Kirby and New Brighton.

The demountable barriers and some swing gates on the West Kirby Flood Wall have been closed.

Storm force onshore winds combined with large waves and the tide height at certain points could cause some overtopping at Kings Parade in New Brighton which will be closed on Saturday.

Trees

With strong winds forecast, we urge people to steer clear of woodlands and wooded areas in parks.

If you see a tree along the highway that is damaged and at risk of falling, please call StreetScene on 0151 606 2004 (9am-5pm, Mon-Fri) or 0151 647 7810 (out of hours).

If you believe there is an immediate threat or danger, please call 999.

If you experience a power cut, call 105 to report this to your provider.

Leisure

All programmed outdoor exercise classes have been cancelled for this weekend and all outdoor football pitches have been closed.

All indoor leisure activities currently will remain open and be available as usual.

Arrowe Park golf course will be closed over the weekend but Warren golf course is currently still remaining open.

Wirral Watersports Centre will have no water based activities on the lake on Saturday and will undertake a site inspection before any lake activities start back up again.
