Wirral Council are working with Merseyside Police and other partners in the local community to highlight the support available to people experiencing anti-social behaviour and the work taking place in Wirral to prevent and tackle it.

This week – 18-22 November 2024 - has been nationally identified as a week to shine a spotlight on anti-social behaviour (ASB) with the overall theme and hashtag of #MakingCommunitiesSafer.

There are a number of daily themes - partnerships, victims, community heroes and young people to name a few – and activities will be taking place every day in accordance with the daily theme.

During ASB Awareness week in Wirral, there are several community engagement activities planned including door-knocking sessions in Rock Ferry, New Ferry and Bebington, which are carried out to reassure residents and provide them with information on how to report ASB.

A street advice surgery is taking place in Moreton on Tuesday with partners including Merseyside Police, local councillors and Community Connectors, while railway stations will also be given attention throughout the week by partners, including British Transport Police.

Areas currently covered by Public Spaces Protection Orders will also be targeted to remind people about the conditions attached to the PSPO and how they can support agencies to enforce the order. Education and awareness about the range of support on offer for residents and young people will underpin the activities being carried out on the ground.

We know how much anti-social behaviour can negatively impact residents’ lives and the cumulative effect of multiple incidents can be debilitating.  This week provides further opportunities to encourage more people to report ASB, whilst raising awareness of the community trigger to review ongoing situations.

Tackling ASB remains a key priority of Wirral Council and all the organisations we work alongside to do this and we have plans that will not only prevent and reduce incidents and use appropriate enforcement, but to also work to understand root causes within our communities.
