Bidding groups set to pitch ideas at community events

16 April 2025

Groups who have submitted funding bids to deliver community projects in five Wirral areas will be asked to talk through their ideas to residents and ask for their vote at a series of community events in the coming weeks.

The groups operating within Wirral's three EVOLVE areas – Woodchurch, Noctorum and Beechwood – along with others in New Ferry and Rock Ferry, submitted their applications some weeks ago for funding of up to £2,000 that they hope to use to deliver their idea.

Projects or initiatives need to focus on one or more themes of health and wellbeing, reducing or preventing crime and/or anti-social behaviour, youth engagement/intervention, environmental issues or community cohesion.

Bidding groups will now get to ‘pitch’ their ideas to local people in each of the five areas in a hope of getting their vote to receive the funding.

The events are scheduled as follows:-

  • Noctorum - Saturday 26 April, 1-4pm, St Andrews Church Centre
  • Beechwood and Ballantyne - Saturday 3 May, 1-4pm, Manor Primary School
  • New Ferry - Saturday 10 May, 1-4pm, New Ferry Rangers' Community Hub
  • Woodchurch - Saturday 17 May, 1-4pm, Carrbridge Centre
  • Rock Ferry - Saturday 24 May, 1-4pm, Byrne Avenue Baths

Each person voting will be entered into a free prize giveaway and as well as hearing about the projects, visitors can enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, plus free refreshments and snacks.

Wirral Council, Merseyside Police and other community safety partners are committed to taking action against the kind of criminality that causes serious harm to people’s quality of life.

The majority of residents are honest, law-abiding people and they deserve to be able to live in an area that is safe and not overshadowed by crime.

The funding being provided under this small grants scheme will hopefully enable groups who are committed to doing good in their local area to deliver a project or event which makes a difference and demonstrates that, together, the community is stronger. I hope as many people as possible are able to attend an event in their area and take part in the voting process.

Cllr Ann Ainsworth - Vice-Chair of the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee, Wirral Council
