Young people with special education needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families are invited to an accessible event which aims to help them prepare for adulthood.

The SEND Preparation for Adulthood Festival, which will take place at the Floral Pavilion on Tuesday 8 October, is aimed at Wirral’s SEND young people from ages 11 – 25. The event seeks to help the young people to prepare for challenges they may face in becoming young adults, moving to adult services and planning for their futures.

The event will feature a marketplace where young people can meet with health and social care services, community and housing organisations, as well as education and career options and opportunities.

Cllr Stephen Bennett, Chair of Wirral’s Children, Families and Education committee, said:

Entering adulthood is a massive change for all young people, with new skills to be learnt and new terrain to navigate.

This is a foundational time for young people with SEND who may also face additional or unexpected challenges.

By bringing together all of these services under one roof, SEND young people and their families will be able to access information and advice directly from professionals, whilst also exploring a huge marketplace of helpful services and organisations. They will be surrounded by people who are there to support them on this journey into adulthood.

A series of talks will also be taking place, touching on topics including; careers advice and guidance, transitions within health services, parent carer participation and more. There will also be two free MENCAP workshops on the topic of deputyship and the court of protection, with spaces still available for one of these sessions. Parents/carers can book their space here: 2:30pm Workshop.

A sensory room will be available for attendees to use.

The festival will take place on Tuesday 8 October, 10am – 7pm. If you’re interested in attending the event, there’s no booking required – just turn up.
