Parents urged to apply for secondary school places before deadline
Parents across Wirral are reminded that applications for admission into Wirral secondary schools next autumn must be made by Friday 31st October.
All parents of pupils currently in Year 6 at primary school should have received a leaflet telling them how to apply, and how to find out more information.
Parents have to apply for a secondary school place for their child by the deadline of Friday 31 October to give their child the best chance of getting a place at one of their preferred schools.
Parents can give up to five preferences when they make their application, and rank their preferred schools to show which would be their first, second, third preference and so on. Schools are not told what rank parents have given to their school.
Wirral operates an equal preference system when considering school admission applications. This means that each of the school preferences given by a parent on their application form will be considered at the same time. If, as a result of this, the system shows that a place could be offered at more than one school, their child will be offered a place at the school ranked highest amongst those named on the application form by parents. Parents should not give a preference for a grammar school unless they have been advised that their child has met the grammar standard.

Choosing a secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will have to make. You will want a school where your child is happy and safe and achieves their best. Our pupils are taught in some of the best buildings in the country with state of the art educational and sporting facilities.
Applications can be made on-line on the School Admissions website. Parents who cannot apply on-line can complete a paper application form, available by calling 0151 606 2000. The deadline for postal applications is 5 pm on Friday 31st October, and for on-line applications is midnight on Friday 31st October.

Offers will be sent to parents/carers on Monday 2nd March 2026 by e-mail for online applicants, or by post for paper form applicants.
