Mayor Bear launches summer holiday challenge
Families looking for free and low-cost things to do during the summer holidays are being invited to take part in a new adventure across Wirral.
Mayor Bear and the Hidden Time Keys is a six-week summer challenge for primary school children, encouraging them to explore Wirral’s history, heritage, parks, coast, villages and local areas.
Each week, children are invited to complete a different activity linked to a part of Wirral’s story — from village life and coastal adventures to town heritage, green spaces, forest stories and their own neighbourhood.
The challenge is designed to help children discover more about the place they live, while giving families ideas for affordable days out during the school holidays.
Activities include spotting local landmarks, visiting parks and open spaces, exploring the coast, learning about historic buildings, drawing favourite places, and finding out what makes each part of Wirral special.
Children can colour in and collect the six “time keys” as they complete the weekly challenges. Each key represents an important value, including belonging, curiosity, respect, care, patience and hope.

Families will also need to download and print the final page of the pack, which includes the keys for children to colour in, cut out and keep as they complete each challenge.
Children who take part will be invited to bring their completed keys to Wallasey Town Hall during the October half-term, where a special celebration event is planned.
The summer holidays are a wonderful time for children and families to explore the places around them. This challenge is about discovering the stories, landmarks, parks, coast and communities that make Wirral so special.
There are so many free and low-cost adventures to enjoy across the borough, and I hope Mayor Bear helps children see their local area in a new and exciting way.
Families can take part at their own pace and do not need to complete the activities in order. The challenge is suitable for primary school-aged children, with support from parents, carers or family members.
