Local foster carer awarded British Empire Medal
A Noctorum foster carer has been recognised by the King for her dedication to supporting children and young people.
Over the last 27 years, Julie Robinson, 58, has fostered more than 20 children – whom she loves and supports as she does her four biological children.
Earlier this year Julie was awarded with a British Empire Medal (B.E.M) for her services to foster care. The medal is awarded to those who have contributed a very ‘hands-on’ service to the community in their local area. She was also invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the King.
Prior to receiving her award, Julie shared her experiences as a foster carer, encouraging others to join the cause regardless of their age, relationship status or finances.
Speaking about the honour at the time, Julie said:
I was shocked when I found out about it, and it is an honour, but I don’t do this to be recognised for it. I do it because it’s in me. I never dreamed of getting a medal. But the kids are ecstatic, they’re all made up for me.

We’d like to join His Majesty in thanking Julie, and indeed all of our fantastic Wirral foster carers, for their continued support and dedication to young people across our borough.
