As well as a wide range of daily activities, the clubs also provide delicious, nutritious meals and snacks.

With the festive period just around the corner, parents and carers are being encouraged to book their child’s space at one of dozens of Christmas Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) clubs across Wirral.

A network of 55 local holiday clubs will be opening their doors over the school break to provide a range of interesting activities to keep the young people active, engaged and learning new things - ranging from yoga and wellbeing sessions to bushcraft skills, music lessons and sports camps.

Christmas HAF clubs run from 19 December 2024 to 4 January 2025 and places are available for young people aged between 5-16 who receive benefits-related free school meals.

The programme is coordinated for Wirral Council by the Community Interest Company, Edsential. Funding for the scheme has been provided by the Department for Education.

As well as a wide range of daily activities, all the clubs will be providing delicious, nutritious meals and snacks to keep children and young people fueled throughout the day.

Cllr Stephen Bennett, Chair of Wirral Council’s Committee for Children, Young People and Education, said:

Over the festive period, countless HAF schemes will be spreading plenty of Christmas cheer with Wirral youngsters.

Don’t just take my word for it - thousands of young people enjoy the holiday schemes so much that they return time and time again.

So, if you know a young person or family who might be eligible, please tell them to get in touch with the team.

Heather Lewis, the Programme Manager for HAF, said:

We have an exciting lineup of holiday activities and food clubs this Christmas for children and young people across Wirral.

Our mission is to create a safe, festive, and inclusive environment where they can have fun, learn new skills, and form lasting friendships. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of an initiative that helps young people thrive.

Parents and carers are encouraged to check if their child is eligible for free school meals as it could enable them to take part in future holiday programmes and unlock a range of other support. More information about free school meals is posted on the Wirral Council website
