GCSE results day: what next for Wirral students?
Thursday 22 August is a big day for Wirral students getting their GCSE results.
Congratulating Wirral students on their hard work and achievements, Cllr Stephen Bennett, Chair of Children, Young People and Education committee for Wirral Council, said:
Congratulations to pupils in Wirral receiving their GCSE results today – and thanks to their teachers and families for their support leading up to and during the challenging exam period.
Receiving these exam results marks a major chapter in your life coming to an end but another exciting one is about to start. Whatever your results, the journey continues and there are options out there for everyone.
Now for the big question… what next? For many of you, it may be A levels. For some, you may be entering the world of work or looking for other opportunities such as apprenticeships or traineeships. Whatever you decide, I wish all of our students the best of luck for the future.
Apprenticeships are a fantastic option for those looking to learn new skills and gain work experience.
Ben Penny (pictured above) is an apprentice who recently completed his hospitality apprenticeship at the Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton. Ben balanced studying at Wirral Met College with his role at the venue and has now fully qualified, with a full-time position at the theatre.
Ben said:
After my GCSEs I, like lots of young people I know, was looking for the next thing. I didn’t think uni was for me, I wanted to start building a career so an apprenticeship was the logical step. Working at the Floral has given me fantastic experience and I’m now working full time, with a lot of experience under my belt already.
I’d recommend it to anybody who’s finished at school and is looking for a new challenge.
Are you a young person looking for your next step? Have you thought about an apprenticeship?
