Families come together to build stronger communities through EPEC
Families from across Wirral recently came together for a celebration event hosted by the EPEC (Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities) team - offering an introduction to a programme that supports parents to strengthen both their confidence and their communities.
The event brought together parents who are considering becoming Parent Group Leaders (PGLs), those about to begin their training, and several experienced PGLs along with their children.
Throughout the afternoon, families enjoyed a range of activities including arts and crafts, football, Lego building and imaginative play. More importantly, the event provided time and space for parents to connect with each other, ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of what EPEC courses offer.
EPEC is a peer-led programme that supports parents to develop skills, confidence and networks that can make a real difference to family life. Parents who take part not only gain practical tools for everyday parenting challenges, but also have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with others who understand their experiences.
By training as Parent Group Leaders, local parents are empowered to deliver EPEC courses themselves, helping to create supportive communities rooted in shared learning and lived experience. Many PGLs highlight increased confidence, new skills, and a stronger sense of belonging as key benefits of being involved.
Interest in EPEC continues to grow across the borough. Next week, eight parents will begin Parent Group Leader training, taking the first step towards supporting other local families.
Two new ‘Being a Parent’ courses are also launching:
- Bromborough Family Hub (Wednesdays)
- Fender Primary (Fridays)
These courses provide a friendly, non-judgemental space where parents can share experiences, learn together and build lasting support networks.
