Wirral’s young people invited to ‘Party in the Park’
Young people are invited to a day-long ‘Party in the Park’ to mark the launch of the new neighbourhood-based services for young people across the borough.
The celebration in Birkenhead Park on Saturday June 25 will feature live music from local bands, musicians and performers, plus games, exhibitions, crafts, games and workshops.
The day is organised by Wirral Council's Youth and Play Service and is a chance for young people to find out about the new and improved services for them in their neighbourhood, meet youth workers and other partners who are involved.
The park event, which takes place from 11am to 4pm, will also feature six “activity zones”. These will include an Arts Zone providing a chance to get creative and contribute to the street art boards, a Sport Zone letting you take on the mobile climbing wall, skateboarding, scooters, inline skating and join in the multi sports experience provided by the LFC Foundation and Virtual Reality Zone in which you can wear a VR headset and immerse yourself in another world.
In addition there will be a Chillout Zone to relax in the chillout tent, and even join in a yoga session, a Showcase Zone where if you are in a band, play any instrument, sing, dance, recite a poem you can make your talent known and finally a Street Zone with street style games for younger kids.
The ‘Party in the Park’ marks the launch of the new Neighbourhood Youth Model for Wirral’s Youth and Play Service which does an amazing job for young people right across Wirral. The service offers a range of activities for young people aged 11 to 19 years (and 20-25 for young people with disabilities) from all backgrounds, and provides a safe space for young people to be themselves meet and socialise with friends and participate in positive opportunities to learn, develop, grow, have a voice and be inspired while having a good time too.
Wirral Council Director of Children’s Services, Simone White, said: “This is going to be a such a fantastic event and there will be something for everyone, plus lots of opportunities to get involved, have a really enjoyable day, listening to great live music and playing games, or just chilling out.
“The event also marks an exciting and important point in the delivery of services for young people in Wirral and I hope as many young people as possible will join us to mark this.”
Among those organisations supporting the event will be LFC foundation, United Utilities, Hive Youth Zone, Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Gautby Road, NEO Community, Merseyside Community Training, Birkenhead Park Rangers, Scenegraphstudios Ltd, Youth Fed, and Barnardo’s Action with Young Carers Wirral.
