The local NHS and Wirral Council are teaming up with Matalan to offer people the chance to ‘Grab-a-Jab’ whilst they shop.

The Matalan stores in Bromborough and Rock Ferry will be hosting NHS-staffed vaccination clinics instore on the following dates:

  • Thurs 10 Feb 4.00pm - 7.30pm Matalan Bromborough
  • Sat 12 Feb 10.00am - 4.00pm Matalan Rock Ferry
  • Thurs 24 Feb 4.00pm – 7.30pm Matalan Bromborough
  • Sat 26 Feb 10.00am – 4.00pm Matalan Rock Ferry

First, second and booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine will be available at both sites for anyone aged 16 or over, as well as first and second doses for 12 to 15 year olds.

The clinic will be located inside the stores, and anyone from the local community is welcome to walk in and receive their vaccination.  No appointment necessary – just turn up.

For those who have been infected with Covid-19, it is necessary to wait four weeks after infection before you receive your next vaccine - but it’s still important to ensure you get the jab after this holding period, as it provides the greatest protection against future infection.

Wirral’s Director of Public Health, Julie Webster said:   “We’re really pleased to be working with Matalan to help improve access to vaccination in Wirral and hope that lots of people will take up the offer.

“Although almost 80 per cent of Wirral residents who are eligible for the vaccine have had at least two doses, we know that many thousands of people still haven’t had a jab or have yet to complete their two courses and booster.

“But it’s not too late if you still haven’t had any jabs, or if you’ve not got around to getting your second or booster dose, so please use these or any of the convenient walk-in clinics to get fully vaccinated and give yourself the maximum protection from becoming seriously ill from Omicron.”

Dr Paula Cowan, local GP and Chair of NHS Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group said:

“Vaccination provides the best defence for you and your loved ones against coronavirus and increases your protection to reinfection and the dangers of long COVID.

“I would urge anyone who tested positive for the virus in December, and is yet to have their booster, or indeed their first or second dose, to come forward for their vaccination.  Visit one of our pop up clinics in the Matalan stores or check where the nearest site is online and get protected now”.

Mike Jeans, Operations Director at Matalan said:   “At Matalan we’re proud to serve families up and down the UK and we’re always eager to hear of opportunities like this, where we can help do that little bit extra for our communities. We’re delighted to be offering up space in our Wirral stores to help more people in the area access their vaccines and booster jabs.

“We’re continuing to operate all our stores with a wide range of measures to go above and beyond the relevant guidance to ensure it’s a safe space for shoppers and colleagues, and in our Bromborough and Rock Ferry stores we’ll have more, friendly team members on hand to help guide visitors to the vaccine area.”

In addition to the Matalan pop-up vaccination sites, there are a range of other local walk-in clinics available every day in Wirral - visit www.wirralccg.nhs.uk/CovidVaccineWalkIn for locations and opening times.

Pre-bookable appointments can be made online at: www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by calling tel. 119.
