New year, new fitness goals? Survey seeks opinions on activity

10 January 2024
White background a circle of silhouettes of people exercising surrounds the words 'how active are you?'

How active are you? Would you be more active if you had the time? Do you use a green space or walk to work?

Residents who want to improve their health and transform their exercise habits are being asked to share their opinions on, and experiences of, sport and physical activity.

Wirral’s leisure service Active Wirral, in partnership with Sport England, have launched a survey offering people the chance to share what they think about the services and facilities provided by Active Wirral or that are available in local communities.

While all residents are welcome to complete the survey, Active Wirral are encouraging those who are less active, and perhaps aspire to change this, to share their ideas and experiences, in order to better understand any barriers to physical activity that residents may be facing.

Cllr Helen Cameron, Chair of Wirral’s Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee, said:

Helping residents to have and maintain active and healthy lives is a core part of our Wirral Plan. To do this, we need to make sure that residents have opportunities to be physically active, be that in our leisure centres, our parks and green spaces and at home.

Listening to what residents have to say about physical activity, their exercise habits and any barriers they face in their daily lives will help us to better tailor our sport and physical activity offer to our borough’s communities.

Answering the survey will help shape future developments and services in the borough.

The survey will take around five minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. It’s open to all people age 16+ who live and work in Wirral.

Emma Bernstein, Strategic Projects Lead at Sport England, said:

The Moving Communities Community survey is a great way for local authorities to engage with communities around physical activity opportunities, and what can be done to encourage people to be more active, whether that be at sports or leisure centres, out in open spaces, or active commuting.

The survey, open from Wednesday 10 January 2024, will run for four weeks until Wednesday 7 February 2024.

Wirral Council is committed to making information accessible to everyone. If you would like further information, or support to complete the survey, please email Dave Simmonds, Community Sports Development Officer, at davesimmonds@wirral.gov.uk.
