New fund to help support Wirral environmental initiatives
Young environmentalists from Wirral are being given an opportunity to bring their ideas for making their communities greener to life.
Grant funding of up to £5,000 is on offer for charities and community organisations to support local young people in delivering environmental projects in their neighbourhoods.
The money is being provided through the Greener Futures Fund, which has been created by the Community Foundation for Merseyside, supported by Liverpool ONE shopping centre and its owners, Grosvenor Property UK.
The aim of the Greener Futures Fund is to empower young people in their communities to take local action on climate change. It also seeks to support training and job opportunities in the green economy, enable community-led climate action and support young people’s access to nature.
Examples of the sorts of projects that may be funded:
- Food growing and food waste prevention projects
- Reuse/recycling projects
- Greening and/or wildlife habitats
- Education and training projects relating to the local environment
- Young people led research and awareness projects
- Sustainable transport schemes such as bike loans
- Supporting the community to switch to sustainable energy suppliers
- Digital projects to enhance sustainability e.g. apps/websites that enable behaviour change or increase local awareness of climate action
Priority will be given to smaller grassroots groups and organisations with a track record of youth social action support and/or environmental initiatives. Direct beneficiaries must be aged 24 and below.
