Work set to begin on safe cycle route along Fender Lane
A scheme of works which will see a dedicated cycle link introduced along Fender Lane begins next Monday (7th March 2022).
Motorists are advised that while the road will remain open to traffic throughout, lane closures will be necessary to facilitate the works, which are being carried out by Cambrianway Ltd on behalf of Wirral Council.
During the 1st phase of works, there will be lane closures in place along the eastbound carriageway of Fender Lane, from Reeds Lane to Hoylake Road, travelling towards Bidston.
During the 2nd phase of works, the lane closures will be in place along the westbound carriageway from Reeds Lane to Hoylake Road, travelling towards Leasowe/Moreton. The scheme is scheduled to last 12 weeks.
The project is part of the council’s Active Travel programme, funded by central government, and is aimed at making it safer and easier for cyclists to use this busy cross-borough route. This scheme will also connect riders to existing cycle schemes - Reeds Lane Cycle Link and the River Birkett Trail – as well as to National Cycle Route 56 at the Bidston end.
