Work has started to make public realm improvements across Liscard Town Centre, with the installation of new benches, planters and bins in key locations.

The improvement works are planned to take approximately three weeks to complete and will be carried out in partnership with Gavin Building Services (GBS) in the following places:
•    The junction between Wallasey Road and Newton Road
•    St. Albans Road
•    Mill Lane
•    The junction between Liscard Village and Manor Road
•    Liscard Crescent
•    The corner of Mill Lane and Liscard Road
•    The junction between Liscard Road and Martins Lane.

£18,000 is being invested in the street works, which is being funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, through the city region’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocation. Liscard Community Links CIC will be supporting the maintenance of the planters with local volunteers.

Councillor Tony Jones, Chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration & Housing Committee, said:

The public realm improvements now underway in Liscard are the latest part of our ambitious plans to revitalise the town, working in partnership with local community groups. Improving facilities on the streets and making them a more pleasant place to be is a fundamental part of building a borough that meets the needs of its residents. This is an important step as we continue work to bring wider regeneration to the area

Councillor Mike Wharton, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade, said:

We’re absolutely committed to supporting the local authorities who make up the Combined Authority in all of their efforts to revitalise their towns.  A big part of that is making sure that towns like Liscard are as attractive and pleasant places to spend time as possible, which is why improvements like these are so important.  I’m sure local people and visitors alike will notice a real difference.

The council has secured £10.78m of funding for Liscard from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund Round 3, matched by £1.2m of council funding, with plans currently in development.

The regeneration of Liscard is guided by The Liscard Neighbourhood Framework: An Integrated Masterplan which was approved in November 2021. It sets out a vision for a town that is more locally distinctive and more community focused, offering a significant opportunity to reshape Liscard whilst supporting its economic growth. It aims to improve the experience of residents, businesses and visitors and it identifies medium to long term improvements for the town centre and will guide how the council invests in regeneration and attracts new developers.

A number of community partners are involved in the work to reimagine the town. The Liscard Together Partnership – a town centre partnership focused on community, place and business - was formally launched on 4 June 2024. It is delivering a range of activity including local events, environmental improvements and support to local business. Further information can be viewed on the Liscard Together website.
