New Brighton is set to strengthen its reputation as a cultural and creative destination with two new projects: a series of street art celebrating local heroes and the launch of a Creative Technology Hub.

Delivered by New Brighton Creative Futures and Focal Point Creative Technology Hub CIC, with support from Wirral Council’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation administered by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, these initiatives will showcase the artistic innovation at the heart of the community.

New Brighton Creative Futures CIC has been awarded £22,000 to deliver two street art installations celebrating local heroes, as part of a longer-term approach to public art and culturally led regeneration in the town.

The first mural, featuring Captain Mike Lowe, was unveiled in November. The second piece, created by internationally renowned artist duo SNIK, is expected to be completed by the end of February 2026 (weather permitting). This artwork will pay tribute to New Brighton in Bloom and the dedicated volunteers who help keep the town vibrant, welcoming, and well cared for. A maintenance plan will also be put in place to ensure the longevity of the new art.

Focal Point Creative Technology Hub CIC will receive £38,000 to establish a Creative Technology Hub - Focal Point - at Richmond House, Victoria Road, with a focus on reaching young people aged 14-25, local freelancers and micro SMEs.

This open-access space will give local people the chance to explore immersive media formats, digital storytelling, video and podcast production, lighting design, and creative enterprise, allowing them to get hands on experience with technology and training that might otherwise be out of reach.

Participants will gain practical skills in digital media and creative technology, earn industry-recognised badges and certificates, and build portfolios that can open doors to further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

Over the next year, the programme aims to reach over 180 residents, delivering:

  • 12 community taster workshops
  • 24 open-access maker labs
  • 12 SME/freelancer innovation clinics

These projects show how investment can unlock local creativity and innovation. By working closely with the local community, partners and ward councillors to support public art and creative technology, we want to help New Brighton continue to grow as a vibrant hub for culture and enterprise, building on the fantastic work already happening in the community and delivering real benefits for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Cllr Mark Skillicorn, Chair of the Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee

These projects show how investment can unlock local talent, strengthen pride in place and create real opportunities for people and businesses. By backing both cultural expression and creative technology in New Brighton, we’re supporting regeneration that builds skills, fuels innovation and helps communities thrive now and for the future.

Cllr Mike Wharton, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade

We’re incredibly grateful for the support of Wirral Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It allows us to build on the creative momentum already present in New Brighton — not just through individual artworks, but through a longer-term commitment to public art, local stories and the people who care deeply for this place. Working in partnership with public bodies and local organisations, it’s encouraging to see New Brighton’s creative renaissance continue to grow and shine

Rory Wilmer, Founded of New Brighton Creative Futures CIC

UKSPF funding is a real boost for New Brighton because it lets us put practical creative-tech infrastructure right in the heart of the town - not as a one-off project, but as something residents, freelancers and small businesses can actually use week in, week out.  We’re helping local people build skills, portfolios and confidence that connect directly to further learning, apprenticeships and work - which is how regeneration becomes rooted and lasting.

Anthony Killick, Co-Director, Focal Point

The SNIK mural is scheduled for completion in February 2026 (weather dependent), alongside an exhibition at The Hatch – a gallery, events and co-working space located on Victoria Road in New Brighton.

Focal Point’s Creative Technology Hub, Focal Point, will be operational in March 2026, when its first workshops and showcases will be announced.
